Great article. I live in NYS, but became familiar with Thacker Pass a couple of years ago when someone involved in that fight asked me to write an article on it. It's a tragic situation on many levels, a project that should be stopped based on water requirements alone, and as usual makes victims of the poorest and already victimized. This push for Green Growth is a giant lie. Renewables can never power the destructive economy we're accustomed to, anyhow. We are destined to degrow one way or another. https://geoffreydeihl.substack.com/p/showdown-at-thacker-pass
Thanks, I too live in NYS. Writing that article took much research and was a real eye-opener. Yes, Green Growth is a lie. It can only be mined, processed, manufactured and installed with fossil fuels. Just a small elephant in the room.
I discovered the beauty of Nevada when I was young, its vast wildness. It is painful to see it being scarred and devoured by various forms of extraction. I am glad that you and your compatriots are trying to stop the gears. BTW, I was there for Mario Savios speech in Sproul Plaza.
I come from the Earth like everyone else. We should all care about the Earth or at least we Americans should all care about all of American flora and fauna. The thing that bothers me most about the transition of energy, is that, conserving it is never asked of us, it's just a big greedy corporate fight in which the plants and animals are losing.
Scars and a brain fueled by the Grateful Dead and Kerouac....and you quote the "bodies upon the gears" speech?.....you are a man after my own heart, Patrick. Thank you for some needed inspiration....

Beautiful writing, Patrick. I am glad to hear there are so many people putting up a fight and I only hope we can increase their numbers!

Thank you Patrick.

This made me cry. I had no idea about this area of the country. I hope as much of it can be saved as possible.
Breaks my heart. Glad for the hearts we have.
